Tik Tok Letter

Please read the letter below from Principal Tom Deaguero in regards to the recent trends affecting schools on the social media platform TikTok.

October 12, 2021
Dear Adams 14 Parents and Families,
We respectfully ask for your help in reinforcing key messaging to your children regarding
appropriate behaviors in schools.
A recent series of videos – known as “monthly challenges” – on the TikTok social media platform
have enticed students to engage in inappropriate behaviors in the school setting that have
disrupted learning, caused damage to schools, and led to significant disciplinary consequences
for some students.
Teachers and administrators on the school level have stressed the unacceptable nature of these
so-called “challenges,” but it is critical that these messages are reinforced by you in the home
as well. Adams 14 schools will have zero tolerance for destructive, disrespectful, or disruptive
behaviors; the “challenges” highlighted in these videos all fall into one or more of these
categories. We ask that you discuss this issue directly with your student(s) to ensure the fullest
clarity of expectations in both the school and home environments.
We also recognize that our students are facing unique challenges during this period. Please do
not hesitate to reach out to our school if you require guidance related to school-based social
and emotional support for your children or have any questions related to our school’s behavioral
expectations as well as how you can support your child to meet them.
Sincerely,
Principal Tom Deaguero
